Definitions for digital nomad and flag theory are generally the same for everyone. Specifically, however, they can mean different things to different people. To me, at this point in time, the words/phrases are defined as follows:
–
DIGITAL NOMAD
For me, it means being location-independent. Able to work from anywhere in the world (with good wifi) on what I call “a disposable” Chromebook (for cloud computing and storage). Travel perpetually (visa-free) to low-budget countries with modern conveniences. Regions (3): Eastern Europe, SE Asia, Latin America. Slow travel: Establish a home base (1-3 months) then take multiple short trips (1 bag/1 week) to surrounding areas in order to explore/discover more favorite places. Travel Style (VIDEO): Hub (home base) and Spokes (short trips). Motive/Purpose: Practice flag theory in order to maximize personal freedoms and to increase quality of life at a lower cost of living (compared to the USA) | Article: Digital Nomads As Immersive Travelers | Website: Immersive Travel Briefings
Travel Style Update: I think the best “trip planning” is to figure out the general path you want to take, book the first few nights of your trip, and let your travels unfold from there. Keep moving until you want to stop or change directions. This way you are never locked into a certain place if your feelings change. Simply move forward in a continuous loop and avoid doubling back. That way you can keep your transportation costs down and you know where you’re going. – Nomadic Matt.
An example of the above “continuous loop” form of travel would be to start from a country’s main travel hub (bus, train, airport), and travel that country in a circular pattern back to the same hub for departure.

FLAG THEORY
For me, it means diversifying personal and financial affairs (flags) in a way that maximizes self-sovereignty and minimizes state sovereignty/oppression. Jurisdiction shopping (the practice of choosing the jurisdiction/country with the most favorable rules or laws for each flag being planted) for the greatest benefit to personal finance, freedom, health, and well-being. Fewest burdensome obligations and least government intervention. Go where you’re treated best – Andrew Henderson | The Sovereign Individual Investment Thesis: How the Information Revolution transforms us from citizens (some will say assets) to customers of governments.
Most Common 7 Flags: digital assets (bitcoin, NFTs, data/files), physical assets (gold/real estate), residencies (permanent), citizenships (second passport; your plan B), business (offshore LLC), medical/dental (tourism), bank accounts (offshore). QUESTION: Aren’t offshore bank accounts illegal? No. Hiding them is.
